Egniol once again entered a team of hardy souls into the St David’s Hospice Dragon Boat Challenge, held on Llyn Padarn, Llanberis on Saturday 1st July. The weather held for the majority of the day as the now annual event saw 22 teams each raising over £1,000 in sponsorship whilst competing on the lake to set as fast a time as possible.

Egniol’s “Catching Dragons” team set the fastest time in rounds 1 and 2, only being beaten by Colwyn Bay Canoe Club by the narrowest of margins in round 3. Such fast times saw the team improve on their 6th place finish from 2016 and progress to the final 4, just as the weather began to turn. Hopes were high of returning at least a podium finish.

Unfortunately, a repeat of Egniol’s 2nd place finish in 2015 was not to be had, with the crew suffering a near collision and capsize in the final. In spite of coming close to an impromptu dip in the lake, Catching Dragons finished only 4 seconds off the winners. This bodes well for the 2018 event, especially given the number of first time rowers in the boat!

Many thanks to all involved including Caroline for her chef skills on the BBQ. To Carys, Steph, Harry, John, John and Matt for bolstering team numbers and Brian for his fantastic effort on the drum! Thanks to Peter, Steph and Anna for the refreshments and to Richard for keeping some sort of organisation on the team.

A huge thank you to all of our sponsors, including our valued clients. We’ve already raised over £1,000 and we are always aiming to raise as much as possible. For more information, visit:
