Landfill: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
Egniol Director Michelle Moran presented at the North West Resources Forum (NWRF) quarterly meeting on 10 June 2026, held at Kendal Town Hall.
The NWRF brings together key actors from across the waste and resources sector to share knowledge, innovations, and regulatory updates — facilitating collaboration between local authorities, businesses, and industry professionals nwrf.
Michelle’s presentation takes a long view of landfill in the UK — from the legislative turning point triggered by the Loscoe gas explosion in 1986, through the evolving regulatory framework, to the practical challenges the sector faces today. It makes the case that landfill is not a solved problem, and that a new generation of tools, frameworks, and trained professionals is urgently needed to manage both legacy sites and the residual waste streams that continue to require disposal.
